More Than Just a Blonde |
The many adventures that make my life. |
Since last May, every Saturday night I would hit the airwaves of our local Top 40 station and keep listeners company from midnight to 6am. It was a great gig and I loved every minute of it. The only downside was, my weekend was revolved around trying to flip my sleep schedule and working other events and napping. My friendships and social life took a back seat.
I am not complaining about that. I did the same thing for 14 years while I was a swimmer and each weekend was dedicated to traveling to another town in Iowa to swim 5 or 6 events and hope I swam fast enough to make the big meets at the end of the season. I made a choice and it was, to better myself.
Three weeks ago, another choice was presented. The light at the end of the tunnel had finally gone on. I was given the option to move to dayside Sunday. My Sundays for the past year had been dedicated to sleeping and movies in the afternoon with my Mom. I was elated. I informed my Mom that movie Sunday would have to become movie Wednesday, which she was fine with because we discovered recently you can get free popcorn on Wednesday’s :)
My first weekend with the new shift I didn’t think much of it, until Saturday came around and my friend Michael informed me he was in town to visit and did I have time before work to come see him. I almost forgot I didn’t have to go in at 11pm, and suggested dinner at 7. Well two seconds after I hit send, I had the epiphany that “Wait, I can go and hang out with you the whole night” and texted him back saying lets get a group together and do dinner and drinks.
I realized how much I missed seeing my friends and not having to rush through our time so I could get to work. I still work all weekend, but now I am making time to see my friends and try things I haven’t done. This weekend for instance I went to a movie, local play, golfing, and a new bar. Fun fact, I worked Friday till 2pm, Saturday morning, Saturday late afternoon until night and all day Sunday.
The scale is finally balanced. Work and play. And not just the same routine, but trying new things and new places. Each week we pick a new place to go to on Saturday and it has been so much fun.
We also have plans to do fire pits, more golfing, canoeing, baseball games, farmer’s markets, and local events.
This not working the overnights has been a great thing……
